  THE DURHAM MIDWIVES

There are currently eleven midwives at Midwifery Services of Durham. The midwives and student midwives in the practice are all registered with the College of Midwives of Ontario and are affiliated, as a teaching practice, with the Ontario Midwifery Education Programme. As individuals and as a group we bring many years of experience caring for mothers and babies in different settings, and a shared respect for childbearing women, their families and communities. We would be pleased to discuss our education and experience as midwives with you on request.

  SHARED CARE

The midwives of Midwifery Services of Durham work in a "shared care" arrangement. Clients are assigned to a team of three midwives based on a number of objective criteria (i.e., geography, parity, place of birth, etc.)

Normally, there are two midwives and a student midwife present at each birth, whether the birth takes place at home or in the hospital. We are all committed to getting to know you well and to offering the same philosophy and quality of clinical care. You can be assured, that care-givers, you know well, will be present for the birth of your baby. Your small group of midwives and students midwives work together to provide prenatal, labour and birth, and postpartum care. It is important for you to be comfortable with us working as a team. We are all committed to practicing in a very similar way so that you can develop of relationship of trust with all of us.
